60 Second Lecture Special Constitution Day Lecture America’s Constitution, Practically Speaking

-: I have a career recommendation for you. Especially a graduating senior. If you truly want to have an impact and really care about your community and want a challenging career, I will say you should work– You should become a bureaucrat. Yes, bureaucrat. Not a teacher, not a firefighter, not a doctor, not an activist. Because without effective bureaucracy; teacher can’t teach, doctor can’t treat their patient, firefighter can’t fight fires, and activists can’t bring about social change that they want. So, my argument is that practically speaking, bureaucrat is the one that makes the constitution real for people. And we need strong, competent, bureaucrats to make the constitution alive and practical to everybody in the community. So, my recommendation for you is that if you’re looking for a challenging career, think about becoming a bureaucrat. And if you think of Ferguson Missouri, Flint Michigan, if you look at the crisis that they have, at the root of it, is because they don’t have strong bureaucrats. So my recommendation for you today is that, think about becoming a bureaucrat. We need it, and your community needs it, and you are making our constitution strong. Thank you.
