France: Medical Staff Protest in Front of Health Ministry in Paris

“You don’t know this job. What is it? When you go to the hospital and ask for an X-ray, well it’s us. When you’ve required a CT scan at the hospital, it’s us. When you are required an MRI at the hospital, it’s us.” ” But it’s not just us in this health system. It’s also radiation therapy, when you’re going to get treatment for cancer with rays, it will be us. When you are going to have nuclear medicine imagery, it will be us. We are not nurses, we are medical imaging manipulators.” “That is why we are before the Ministry today, [so that] the Ministry hears that this profession has to be recognised today. This profession exists, it is necessary in patient management. They want to be recognised, they want to have a decent salary to be able to live. Especially in Paris, the salary to be able to pay for accommodation in Paris is the least you can ask.” “Today, when they hire in this profession, we don’t have enough revenue. We also need workforce, because today in all the hospitals, all the health services, the finances are so limited that there aren’t enough means to hire people, and people even leave because the salary is not enough.” “For 12 years, we have never been in such a situation. When I arrived, we were in a good situation, we were fully staffed. We had good work conditions. We didn’t have much to complain about. Today the situation is getting worse. We have a reduced workforce. We are forced to fill the gaps ourselves.”
