Hello and welcome to another episode of Gear Time News Update for the NAMM 2020 Today we will talk about the Universal Audio Luna and about Telefunken M260 Lets Go! Whitey! Timsen! The NAMM is happening at the moment and there are some interesting things which were announced We will pick two of them First it´s the Universal Audio Luna and second the Telefunken M260 tube microphones We are starting with the announcement which is growing big in the recording scene it´s that Universal Audio is making a DAW now Why? So i can guess… Basically Universal Audio is working in the vintage segment with their reissues from their own stuff and it´s a logic connsequence to bring a DAW which is also linked to their hardware Thats one of the reasons why i think. I read this severals times inn the comments, it´s a good sales drive for their own stuff it´s for free if you own a arrow or apollo interface which works as a dongle thats the way you can say it and it also lets you stay in their cosmos, because, and now comes the big thing what this DAW can It´s not only a standard DAW in which you can integrate your plugins – beside the UAD plugins you should be able to integrate the other plugins – Basically the whole thing looks not that unsimilar to Logic you have to say The complete ground remembers a lot on Logic and that what you get is a DAW in this style And i really like the colors in the arrangement window , it remembers me on Abelton From the colorful colors But what i really really like is the Mixer of Luna It has this analog vibe Sometimes i wish i had a skin for the Logic mixer And what it makes special you can, or to the start of Luna their will be a Neve Summing style of plugin what you can put on the channels and then it should sound analog Like Neve sound and different tape machines are in it So, you have different emulations of tape machines From an A800 and several others And, what they also have They have their own software instruments There a exactly 3, one with a Moog a Mini Moog Yes A grand piano, and that should be sampled or recorded Steinway piano from the United Recording Studios, if i get it right And then different sample stuff They have Shape, it´s a multi instrument with a lot of sounds on which also worked spitfire audio and so on which make sounds for them. So very high end. And the whole thing is for free for the users of this interfaces And the thing is, that you should be able to use everything during recording Yes excatly, real time And they have developed their own audio engine which is make out of two engines that should feel, that you as user never recognize that you have a digital workstation you never feel the latency. Doesn´t matter if your playing or during listening That would be awesome They are also advertising with : Analog sound at the speed of light So, lets wait Yes, i really want to listen to it, but the thing is we don´t own a Arrow and also doesn´t bought a Apollo interface But it also releases in spring so… at the moment it isn´t available But as i said, i think it´s really interesting and in detail the summing with the Neve and tape stuff how it works It would be interesting to check i mean we have the UAD cards here with tons of plugins If this is really a complete new world If it differs from the other stuff I really like to know this Thats one thing i´m a bit sad about that the normal UAD cards, like the PCI Express cards that they aren´t also a dongle to use Luna Of course you can´t record with a Universal Audio interface so the whole real time stuff is out but you could also mix in it or something else Probably they are doing something like this. We will see. So whats also new? Also new, and it´s suprised me a bit. I have to double check it. Telefunken had relaunched microphones So first it´s sounds to me as they are Reissues of legendary microphones. But it doesn´t seems like this. Instead they building again the ELA M 260 Which were 2010… won the Tec Award at the NAMM show, or not on the NAMM show, i don´t know That are tube microphones They are looking pretty nice and really vintage In general they are coming with 3 different capsules Omni, Cardiod and super Cardiod And the interesting thing is there aren´t a lot of competitors on the market On the top segment Tube microphones, small diagraph Probably Schoeps? Does Schoeps producing still tube mics? No? It doesn´t remember me on something It´s really a unique selling preposition Yeah, now while you saying it. It really makes sense to bring a tube microphone to the market officialy a small diagraph Otherwise you can only buy used ones There are a lot of great used stuff on the market for exmaple we made videos for the M582 from Neumann Gefell which is for a very cheap price a really nice microphone Otherwise the usual suspects KM54 or something like that From the videos… what you can find on YouTube, it´s a bit like the KM54 The totally open, almost crystalic sound But nevertheless with warm at the bottom from the tube We should get this We should definitly test this And above everything the price is not for the small home recording wallet we have to say. One mic costs with a cardiod capsules is about 1300 dollar But compared with a Neumann KM54 it´s a gift Right. And here you have the advantage that the tube you can still buy it. Because they are using a NOS 5840W So it seems to me that you still get it. A AC701 is more difficult to get. And also the price of a 701 is… and the availability Because it´s not save, that when your tube is broken, doesn´t matter which price you pay, that you get directly one if there is nothing online at the moment you don´t get something So they have build in USA transformer, but they doesn´t say which one And also there is written, that there are new capacitors which should decrease the impedance and the noise At this point i get keen of hearing and get stomach issues But we have to see it then We like noise For real, i´m not againts noise So, that are two new news, there are a lot of other things which we will present in the next days if you liked the video please give us thumbs up and subscribe to our channel. And write us in the comments what do you think about the microphone or the Universal Audio DAW Thanks for watching. See you next time.
