How to File a Vendor Use Fuel Tax Return


[Music] In this video, we will show you how to file
a Vendor Use Fuel Tax return. We protect all of your confidential information
throughout the filing process. First, go the website, CDTFA.CA.GOV, and at
the top click on “Login.” That will take you to the Online Services
Portal. In order to file a Vendor Use Fuel Tax return,
you must login with a Username and Password. For assistance with creating a Username and
Password, please watch our tutorials online. The next step is to identify the account type
for which you are filing. In this example, we are filing a return for
an Alternative Use Fuel Vendor account. Then click on the “File, Pay and View”
link located here. On the CDTFA online filing page, we will enter
our Username and Password then click “Login.” On the login home page, under the accounts
tab we will click on the “Alternate Fuel Vendor” hyperlink. This will take us to the Alternate Fuel Vendor
Account page. There, under the Periods Tab, click on the
return period for which you would like to file. In our example, we will file for the 3rd quarter
2019 period which is displayed by its return end date of September 30th, 2019. Next, answer the following questions to determine
which schedules are required to be filed on your return. In our example, we selected “Yes” to sell/deliver
motor vehicle fuel and sell to users authorized to purchase ex-tax fuel. After answering all of the questions, click
“Next” to proceed. On Schedule A, report fuel sold and delivered
into fuel tanks of motor vehicles by location. The table below will prepopulate based on
your registered locations. To complete the table, click on the empty
boxes under the following headings. In our example, we have transactions for Compressed
Natural Gas and Liquefied Natural Gas. After completing the table, click “Next.” This will take us to Schedule B, where we
will report sales to users authorized to purchase ex-tax fuel under regulations 1319 and 1320. To complete this table click on the “Add
a Record” link. This will present a window in which to enter
the required information. Enter the User’s permit number, name and
address, then click on “Click here to verify address.” The address search window will populate,
then click on “Click here to verify address.” A pop up window may display with multiple
search results. Select the address that matches your entry
that has been verified. Then click on “Select this address.” If you have selected a verified address, the
Address Search page will display verified. Then click on the “Save” button. Complete the rest of the required information
on Schedule B, then click “Add.” To add additional sales made to users authorized
to purchase Ex-Tax fuel, click on “Add a Record.” To delete a record, click on the red “X.” To edit a record, click on the pencil and
pad icon. Once we have completed all transactions on
Schedule B, we will click “Next.” On the Compressed Natural Gas page, the total
units of compressed natural gas sold and delivered into fuel tanks of motor vehicles will be
pre-populated from Schedule A. If you need to update this figure, click on
the “Previous” button. Next, complete the deductions
section, if any. Then review the page for accuracy and click
“Next.” On the Liquefied Natural Gas page, your total
units of liquefied natural gas sold and delivered into fuel tanks of motor vehicles will be
prepopulated from Schedule A. If you need to update this figure, click on
the “Previous” button. Next, complete the deductions
section, if any. Then review the page for accuracy, and click
“Next.” Review the Summary page. If you need to make corrections, click on
“Previous,” otherwise click “Next” to proceed. Enter your required information and click
“Submit.” When you click “Submit,” a window will
appear to confirm your intent to file electronically and that your return is true, correct, and
complete. Please read the information carefully. Enter your password and click “OK” to
submit. This will serve as your authorization and
confirmation. You will not receive a confirmation email. This “Confirmation” page represents a
return filing only. To make an electronic payment, click on the
“Make a Payment” button. To print your submitted return, click on the
“Print Return” button. If you still have questions, please call our
