Introduction to the Cyber & Privacy Working Group

Hi, my name is Matthew Heiman. I’m the Chair of the Cyber & Privacy group,
which is part of the Regulatory Transparency Project at the Federalist Society. Our group is focused on regulations as they
may impact the innovation economy. When I say, “the innovation economy,” I’m
talking about the Internet, the development from the Internet, and all the industries
that have sprung up from the Internet. One need only think about Google, Facebook,
Airbnb, Uber, and many other companies that are changing the way we work and live. They’re generated tremendous amounts of jobs,
economic wealth, and strength for the United States of America. As we think about these innovative platforms
for doing business, it’s critical that the regulations that affect them, or the regulations
that may affect them, be tailored appropriately for those innovative platforms. The risk is that we cut off the growth, the
benefits, and the jobs that we’ve seen from this innovation economy. I would invite you to come look at our work
at RegProject.org. You can see the work of the Cyber & Privacy
group, as well as the other working groups that are a part of the Regulatory Transparency
Project. In addition, you can follow the Regulatory
Transparency Project’s progress on social media platforms, such as Twitter, Facebook,
and LinkedIn.
