Joy Pullman on the Trump administrations efforts to help women

STEVE: WHEN I SPOKE WITH A BACKDROP, OUR CONVERSATION FOCUSED ON JOBS AND RESCALING THE AMERICAN WORKFORCE. THE OTHER IMPORTANT PART FOCUSED ON FAMILIES. WATCH.>>THESE POLICIES ARE WORKING AND WORKING FOR THE PEOPLE WHOSE JOBS WERE THE MOST VULNERABLE AND THOSE OF PEOPLE WERE TRYING TO HELP. WE ARE ALSO TRYING TO HELP WITH OUR WORKING FAMILY AGENDA BY RECOGNIZING THE REALITIES OF MODERN WORKING FAMILIES IN THE ENORMOUS COST OF CHILDCARE FOR THOSE FAMILIES AND THE NECESSITY OF CHILDCARE TO FAMILIES WHO NEED TWO INCOMES OR ARE SINGLE PARENTS. THEN OF COURSE THE IMPORTANCE OF CHILDREN OF CHILDCARE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION. STEVE: THERE’S A LOT OF SUBSTANCE HERE BUT LET’S PUT UP THE ELEMENTS OF IVANKA TRUMP’S PROFAMILY AGENDA, DOUBLING THE CHILD TAX CREDIT, PUSHING FOR PAID PARENTAL LEAVE AND WANT TO SHOW YOU HOW IMPORTANT FAMILY IS BUT ONE OF THE CENTRAL POINT IN A MESSAGE WAS UPWARD MOBILITY. LOOK AT THIS DATA. IT ANALYZES SOCIAL MOBILITY BY FAMILY STABILITY. IF YOU LOOK AT THAT ONE IT IS A REALLY IMPORTANT BUSINESS ON BENEFITS OF MARRIAGE. IF YOU LOOK THERE THAT THE MARRIAGE RATES KEEP PARENTS TOGETHER DEPENDING ON WHETHER THEY ARE COHABITING OR MARRIED IS A HUGE FACTOR. 74% OF MARRIED PARENTS STAY TOGETHER COMPARED TO 24% FOR COUPLES WHO ARE COHABITING. GET THE DATA WHO IS RISING UP AND CAN SCALE IT TURNS OUT SOMEONE BORN IN THE BOTTOM 20% OF THE INCOME DISTRIBUTION, IF THE PARENTS ARE NOT MARRIED AND THEY WILL BE MUCH MORE LIKELY TO STAY THERE. 50% THEY THERE. IT’S A HUGE DIFFERENCE COMPARED TO PEOPLE BORN IN A FAMILY WITH A STABLE PARENTAL BACKGROUND. FAMILY POLICY IS NOT SOFT, SEPARATE THINGS BUT RIGHT AT THE HEART OF JOBS AND A COMIC IN ITS FANTASTIC TO SEE THE ADMINISTRATION RECOGNIZES IN A SUBSTANTIVE WAY. JOINING US TO DISCUSS THIS, EXECUTIVE EDITOR OF THE FEDERALIST AND FELLOW FOR THE HEARTLAND INSTITUTE. WE JUST INTRODUCED BY TERKEL CARLSON AND THEN I’VE BEEN VORACIOUSLY CONSUMING EVERYTHING EVEN WRITING AND I LOVE IT. ONE PARTICULAR THING THAT I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU ABOUT WITCHES A PIECE YOU WROTE ABOUT HOW YOU CAN COMBINE WHAT MOTHERS WANT TO DO WHICH IS BE THERE FOR THEIR CHILDREN BUT ALSO MEET THEIR DESIRE TO BE IN THE WORKFORCE WITH MUCH MORE POSSIBLE WORKING ARRANGEMENTS. TALK ABOUT THAT.>>SURE, I FOUND PARTICULARLY IN MY OWN LIFE AS I HAD CHILDREN AND I HAVE FIVE, IT’S A WONDERFUL BLESSING TO FIND EMPLOYERS FOR FLEXIBLE AND WILLING TO WORK WITH ME BECAUSE THEY VALUE MY SKILLS AS A WORKER AS WELL AS THE AS A WHOLE PERSON. I’M A MOTHER AND COMMITTED TO MY CHILDREN. I MISS SPENDING A LARGE PORTION OF MY DATE WITH MY CHILDREN AND I HAVE A ONE -YEAR-OLD, THREE, FIVE -YEAR-OLD INTO OLDER SCHOOL-AGE KIDS. I KNOW THEY NEED ME TO BE THERE WITH THEM TO HAVE AN OPTIMAL DEVELOPMENT. MY EMPLOYERS HAVE LOVELY FLEXIBLE WORK AND I WORK NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS IN COUPLE HOURS A WEEK WITH A BABYSITTER AND THAT ALLOWED ME TO DO TWO THINGS I LOVE. MORE EMPLOYERS SHOULD BE THINKING ABOUT THAT AND WHEN WE HEAR THEY’RE TRYING TO ATTRACT WOMEN THEY FOCUS ON WEIRD THINGS LIKE FREEZING THEIR EGGS THAT CAN HAVE DAMAGE TO WOMEN’S BODIES AND THINK IT DAMAGES THE CULTURE CONVERSATION BECAUSE IT DOESN’T SAY TO THEM AND WE VALUE YOU AS YOU ARE AND WOMEN MAKE BABIES AND THAT IS OKAY AND LOVE THAT BECAUSE IT’S GOOD FOR SOCIETY. THERE ARE PROFAMILY AND PRO- WOMEN WAYS AND ANTI- FAMILY AND ANTI- WAYS OF ARRANGING WORK. WE SHOW SUPPORT. STEVE: SARAH, TO FOLLOW FROM THAT WE JUST SAW ALTHOUGH I PRAISED HER TECH POLICY ALONG WITH WORN HEAD OF POLICY ON CHILDCARE THAT SOUNDED NOT AT ALL THE DIRECTION WE SHOULD BE MOVING.>>THAT CERTAINLY IS THE DEBATE. JOY BRINGS UP SOMETHING THAT IS DEAR TO MY HEART. I HAVE A FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE AND WE HAD CHILDREN AND SIX CHILDREN FROM OLDER TO YOUNGER AND HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF MANAGING THEM AND AS A MOM AND I HAVE A FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE I’VE CHOSEN AT THIS POINT IN MY CAREER TO GO INDEPENDENT AND WORK HERE WITH FOX AS A CONTRIBUTOR TO DO MY WRITING BUT WHEN I THINK ABOUT THIS DEBATE ON THE SCALE FOR WOMEN ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY I’M ALSO THINKING REALISTICALLY. I SPOKE EARLIER WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT MY MOTHER AND AFTER MY FATHER PASSED AWAY SHE BECAME A SINGLE MOM AND ENDED UP WORKING AND DID NOT HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE BUT WORKED IN A FACTORY FOR A WHILE AND PUTTING AIRPLANE PARTS TOGETHER BUT REMEMBER HOW DIFFICULT IT WAS TO FIND THAT TIME TO BALANCE CHILDREN IN THE RIGHT JOBS TO BALANCE BOTH OF US, MY BROTHER AND I AS WELL AS HER JOB IN BRINGING MONEY AND SUPPORTING US SO WE WOULD HAVE A LIFE. I THINK WHAT JOY IS SAYING IS SO TRUE. WERE AT A NEW LEVEL IN SOCIETY OR WE HAVE TO HONOR WOMEN AS WELL AS WHAT WE CAN DO TO MOVE THEM FORWARD IN THE WORKPLACE BY HONORING WHO WE ARE AND OUR BODIES ON THE ABILITY TO HAVE CHILDREN BUT LOOK AT OTHER ISSUES. I DON’T AGREE WITH ELIZABETH WARREN’S PLANS ON USING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. STEVE: SORRY TO CUT YOU OFF BUT HENRY, I LIKE YOUR POLITICAL TAKE ON THIS. THAT AGENDA CHILDCARE, CHILD TAX CREDIT IS NOT TRADITIONAL REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE POLICY. I WOULD SAY IT’S POSITIVE POPULISM.>>EXACTLY THE SORT OF THING THAT FAMILIES TALK ABOUT AROUND THE DINNER TABLE. SORT OF THING REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN AFRAID TO TALK ABOUT THE NEED TO. YOU TALK ABOUT BLUE-COLLAR FAMILIES WHO VOTED FOR TRUMP FOR REPUBLICAN AND THEY NEED THAT FLEXIBILITY OR COULD BENEFIT FROM MORE CHILD TAX CREDITS AND THE WAY SHE WANTS. TALKING TO MODERATE EDUCATED MOMS WOULD ALSO BLUE-COLLAR MOMS AND DADS THAT THIS IS EXACTLY WHERE REPUBLICANS NEED TO BE TALKING AND HAVE NOT BEEN TALKING AND SHE’S HELPING TO LEAD THE WAY.>>I THINK WERE HAVING AN ELITIST CONVERSATION SO THE MAJORITY OF KIDS DON’T GET TO GO OFF IN TWO-PARENT HOMES. AT THE MUCH BROADER CONVERSATION AND SAD BUT THE THOUGHT THAT EVERY AMERICAN GOING UP OR HAVE A HUSBAND TO SUPPORT THEM IS NOT REALITY. STEVE: WE HAVE THE DATA ON THAT. IT’S APPROACHING THE POINT WHERE YOU GOT HOUSEHOLDS WHERE THE WOMEN ARE THE EARNER.>>THAT’S WHY I LIKE IVANKA PUSHING FOR PARENTAL LEAVE. I WOULD SAY THE GIG ECONOMY IS NOT ABOUT WOMEN BUT THE DAD WHO WANTS TO STAY AT HOME BUT THE REALITY IS A MUCH BIGGER ISSUE IS THAT THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN GROWING UP IN SINGLE PARENT HOMES IS GREATER THEN MARRIED HOMES AT THIS POINT. MARRIAGE HAS BECOME AN ELITE INSTITUTION AND THAT IS NOT GOOD FOR SOCIETY. STEVE: IS A HUGE ISSUE. I WANT TO COME BACK TO THE FINAL WORD BECAUSE THAT’S AT THE HEART OF THIS. YOU CLOSE OUT.>>WHAT IS MISSING FROM THE CONVERSATION WERE HAVING ABOUT DAYCARE AND PAID LEAVE IS THE FACT THAT IT’S AND COMFORTABLE THE YOUNG CHILDREN NEED THEIR MOTHER TO FOCUS ON THEIR ENERGIES ON THEM. THAT IS SOMETHING NEITHER DAYCARE CAN PROVIDE A CHILD BUT THE CHILD’S EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CHILD INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT AND THEIR SENSE OF SECURITY FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE IS CREATED BY HAVING MOM FOCUSING ON THEM FOR THE FIRST THREE, FIVE YEARS OF LIFE AND THAT IS SUBSIDIZING FAMILY SEPARATION TO DAYCARE AND OTHER POLICIES BUT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON STRENGTHENING FAMILIES AND FAMILIES BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN KIDS INDICATING THAT MESSAGE OTHER THAN SUBSIDIZING FAMILY SEPARATION BUT THAT’S ONLY BAD FOR KIDS AND THE SOCIOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH EMPHASIZES THAT. THAT’S BEEN MISSING FROM THE HIGH LEVEL AMORTIZATION. YOU CAN SUBSTITUTE CARE FOR CHILDREN AND IT IS NOT POSSIBLE.>>YOU PUT IT ON THE AGENDA. JOY, I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO TALKING TO YOU MORE ABOUT THIS

I am a school teacher, retired now, and my wife stayed at home and home schooled my children. I was the bread winner. For a time, I did some side work to bring in a little extra income. We lived just fine on my income. I do not understand this notion of marriage with children being elitist. Excuse me, but a lot of people are choosing to have children and raise them without both parents. That is a bad choice. My daughter is at home with her children because her husband is the wage earner and supports the family that way. She intends to stay home. There is no reason, monetarily, for her to work. My son is the main wage earner. His children are older now so his wife works part time when the children are away at school. If you are going to have children, that is your number one obligation to be with them and provide for them in a stable two parent, mother-father home. Don't tell me that my entire family was just lucky. Bunk!! That is a choice pure and simple.

Right! Ivanka's initiatives have nothing to do with this administration's policies. Trump just proposed a budget with a 5% across the board social spending cut. Very friendly!

  • John Rider

It would seem that if it makes sense, Congress will never do it. But if it is corrupt and just plain stupid, they do it. It really is not that hard if you are doing the right thing for the right reasons.

  • Suzie Q

Exactly!!!!…. if we are going to subsidize then we should make it easier for parents to care for their own children.

  • Dana Gilkison

That is another benefit of capitalism—it does give women with good skills who are an asset to an employer flexibility in taking care of their children during the first 10 years of their lives. That was true for me and many others. Government makes it worse when they mess in the process because it takes away the employer’s ability to be flexible. I am 81 years old so this is not new. I was once a single mother with four children and I still had the flexibility because I was willing to be flexible with them myself. Government just needs to stay out of it. Women can work from home today which makes more flexibility that I did not have.

  • Conservative Hamster

honestly, women don't need any more help. stop benefiting them, they already enjoy too many unjust privileges.

  • Irina Godunko

Demrats never were and never will support family as brick and mortar of any society! All they want to rip children from families as soon as possible and indoctrinate and brainwash youngsters!

  • Paul Janssen

Thank you Donald Trump for being the first class president to all the people of this nation those that love you and even those that hate you kudos

So not only will taxpayers foot the bill for welfare leeches, now we have to foot the bill for married women to have kids too.

  • Jeffrey McGill

My wife and I have been married 30 years and raised a wonderful drug and alcohol free son who honorably served in our Air-Force . We are so proud of him . My parents are divorced and I swore to my self that I would never raise my kid in a broken home . My father was also abusive to me and my mom . I haven't seen or spoken to him in 25 years . Our son is so lucky that he has a mom and dad who love each other and love him . It DOES make a difference having both parents love each other and stay married . Life is good now for me but more important it's good for our son who's 28 years young .

Ivanka.. born to TRUMP MONEY LIKE HER FATHER WAS talking about vulnerable people… and American's not wanting handouts but wanting to work for their money.. like she did I suppose. Does it get any more hypocritical than this..

As of March 3 The Washington Post has cataloged 9014 ties Trump has lied to the American people since taking office. PBS News Hour reported: Inside the unprecedented partnership between Fox News and the Trump White House. The Washington Post reported: How QAnon, the bizarre pro-Trump conspiracy theory, took right-wing circles online. I listened to Qanon last night. Fox News is prominent In their video library . Qanon is a growing constituency in the Fox viewership.

Well, seeing how his supporters talk about repealing the 19th amendment, and how they're limiting the rights they have to their bodies, safe to assume his efforts are little to none.

Every Democrat legislation is a calculated move on a chessboard. "Family" is a conservative value that Democrats find difficult to pander to while pandering to their loose-moral constituents as well. So subsidizing and promoting family separation… to distance kids from the conservative-rearing influence of their parents is a strategic move for them. Remember… every Democrat play is exactly that… a calculated play. In contrast, and almost as a direct counter… Ivanka is pushing paid parental leave… aimed at allowing more time together between parent and child. Recently, liberals released an app that specifically targets 13-17 year old kids to teach them about the merits of abortion. Liberals know no moral boundaries… they are targeting kids to indoctrinate them as future voters.

  • Terry Ingram

Joy is Spot On! The issue is NOT transferring children to the highest bidder. Young children NEED their Mother, as well as their Father. The fact of the matter is… newborns need their mother to feed and nurture them, there are no other Real alternatives! I agree with Joy, give the mother the flexibility to work. Trust me, women can multitask. However, let them multitask on their terms, not the employer's terms. Don't underestimate we Dads either… I remember my wife and me racing to be the first to our child when he awoke in the night. I slept on the side closest to the bedroom door, (protector of the domicile – ya' know) so I always got there first! She was always laughingly pissed, LOL!

  • Brandon Gower

This is such a stupid bill and why are Republican's even for this. You are out right forcing business's to pay family leave to which shouldn't even exist. You are actually wanting to crush our economy with your stupid Ivanka kiss assing, so stupid

  • xdrfox

I was a single Father, 5 children 3-5- 6 – 9-15… all these years My children are grown and we are rarely thought of .. LOL

  • Chris Hamilton

Joy Nailed it. . Don't give more money for the amount of kids for single parent, give more money to the married parents trying to make it work, I agree 💯

  • DaveK

the most important time is the 4-7 years of age and then again, in the 12-16 years.. the kids need their parent (male or Female), now, not 6 hours later when they forgot what the Real problem was.. so one or the other, needs to be at home….

  • Jose Rodriguez

Man do I appreciate that woman! The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree cuz Ivanka is as hot as her mother was at that age.

  • Sun Geye

Take that feminazis! The right is fighting for these rights!

    Disclaimer:
I don't respond to weak trolls. Trolling is 2012's thing. I love to debate decently though!

  • Bflo Joe

I think raising children is a full time job, and no one can do it better than Mom. Five six kids and a job is like having your cake and eat it too with bragging rights.

  • Sherri Stewart

I like what Joy had to say, esp. that she laid it on the line that it's not just child care–it's MOM!! Critical for child development and emotional stability.

  • Eugene H

Perhaps if you change the Divorce law men would be more likely to get married. Otherwise its a stepping stone for upward female mobility. Alimony childcare next.

  • Not Q

The narrator uses statistics to advance his thesis that marriage helps keep couples together longer compared to cohabitating couples. There is a problem with that interpretation of the statistics.

Couples that marry are typically more traditional than unmarried couples living in a common law relationship. You cannot compare the two populations. They have different values to start with. Then there are cultural differences. Most Latino couples are married, and they are likely to be Catholic. These kinds of things all contribute to the tendency to stay in the current relationship.

Marriage itself, other things being equal, accounts for maybe 5% of the variation.

  • Rex Luther

The foundation of the liberal Democrat party is the destruction of the family and real family values. They rely heavily on broken homes, adulrty ,prostitution and illiteracy and poverty and drug abuse and addiction .

  • Rachelle Manning

I believe in strong families. The family is the foundation. I think paid family leave is a smart business move as well. People will be loyal to a company that treats them well; therefore saving companies money by not having to pay to train and hire as many people.

  • happy cats

So would this have anything to do with the so called wage gap, men tend to work longer hours with less flexibility. You know I'm right 🙂

  • Knight Oyin

Question for joy, while claiming to be a mother of five are you not also a wife? Or the man gets no mention or is ignored because you're trying to push an agenda?
Its wrong for mothers to ignore the fathers of their kids especially when they are still actively involved in their lives. The whole talk was about families and marriages.

  • richard mcguire

EVERYONE is much better with Trump as president, even democrats, who haven't realized it yet because they're still stomping their feet and crying and sobbing loudly.

Trump has shown by his past actions that he likes to give women a grouping hand up and be personally raised 130K for women in porn aka Stormy and donated 150k to Playboy Playmates aka McDougal.

please tell me not everyone is stupid enough to believe that graph… 100% of all parents are either living together or married? nope. no parents get married after they conceive? nope.

if you have a genuinely skeptical mind, it’s hard to watch fox “news”

  • Michele Lyn

One thing I really would never forget about you mancha this she said on 1 of the shows of apprentice talk about their show my people have so many good ideas but the problem is they fear success and it's very true I mean it takes a lot of commitment in time and energy and trust in other people to make your idea come to live and lock people are scared of that they're scared of that responsibility they're scared of having people you know that depend on them for their living it is scary

  • Michele Lyn

The best AA parent can do is keep their children out of daycare I'm very out a way where one parent can raise our kids and 1 work or both of them work but both raise our kids also it's just ridiculous you have strangers rate in your kid from 6:30 in the morning till 6:30 at night People need to learn how to create their own business and be successful because job what you parents as not gonna get you anywhere

  • Michele Lyn

How do I make more sense to try to accumulate income producing assets that you manage as a family then for both of the parents to go to work 40 plus hours a week it just really mathematical makes no sense you can't take care of your house right you can't take care of finances right you can't take care of the maintenance at your house I mean are on and on and on there's not enough time the day for both parents to work 40 plus hours A-day

  • Michele Lyn

Another program I need to focus on is getting the parents back together I spar as co-parenting we had a lot times like the relationship that broke down is what stops a father from being able to have time with his child and wife are versa when the dad have to take custody but at some point people change and they grow up some or they really want to have a relationship and they can't because the momma screaming in their face every time they try thou of a good program to work on I know plenty where the women think that the men don't care but a lot times it's like the women still want that control over their man as there a couple and not separate the peyronie is separate from you know the relationship

  • Michele Lyn

Am I people use that single parent like it's a crutch young just cause you're a single parent doesn't mean that you cannot get support from the community the school your neighbors that would say there a single parent but the want for years we say that years what have their own parents and grandparents who have helped baby sit and watch those kid but yet they still continue say I'm a single parent poor me

  • Michele Lyn

The bottom line is it is not humanly possible to be one parent and work 40 hours a week or more plus do everything you have to do to take care your child properly your child is in day care all day and when they're not in day care you don't even do anything with them because you're too busy running around trying to catch up on housework and take your car to get an oil change only really list everything that a house hold family needs outside a pain for it its like a whole separate job

  • Michele Lyn

Exactly and you're never gonna be the one who raises your children a 100% if you have to go in work 40 plus hours a week the math is just not there sorry like you can try but you how all these people implement your child every single day from the time they're old enough to go to day care to the time they're old enough to go to elementary school and let's not pretend that the day care teachers are qualified because I used to work in day care and they pay you minimum wage while they charge the parents hundreds of dollars a week for day care and so what kind of employees taking care your kids you think you're gonna get for 725 hour

  • Emilio

Trump seeks to take away from medicare, medicate and social security for his great fence. Way to go Trump to make America great again. Trump hero of the stupid, expiration date, very very soon.

  • Sue Randall

Those child care tax credits should ONLY go to those who actually work. No credit for welfare moms and anchor babies.
If you don't work you get NOTHING!!

  • Rosebud

For sure mr. president is the rightest person to help women; being a family man with great loyalty rooted in his prestige and morality, avoiding those like Stormy Daniels and women as such, having his daughters in the top positions, etc. trump for ever.

  • Carrie Stanford

I do not agree with companies having to pay for family leave. Children need to be raised at home with their mother not a daycare. This is such a serious issue for our children.

  • Caucasian Asian

Has Trump ever grown a tomato? Has he ever grown a few corn plants? Has Donald Trump Ever worked in a garden? If the answer is no then he doesn't get my vote. It's that simple.
