Judge writes letter against proposed drug possession amendment

An update now to a story we first brought you yesterday…Ohio issue one. The state’s top judge is weighing-in on the proposed amendment. Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor sent a letter to judges and magistrates across the state. She warned that if Issue 1 is approved in November, it will leave Ohio with what she calls the “most lenient drug crime laws in the nation”. The Issue would make all non-violent possession cases misdemeanors, regardless of what drug was involved. Supporters claim the Issue would reduce inmate populations, and provide more money for treatment programs.
