Legislative reform: Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979

The biggest changes to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act in forty years come into effect as of the first of March 2018. We heard that you want the planning system to be simple and easy to navigate with more accountability and community participation. We’re planning for growing NSW with more than two million new residents forecast over the next twenty years. We want all residents, young and old to know that their voices are being heard and their opinions are shaping the future of where they live. Getting local communities involved is important because the best people to help plan for an area are the ones who live there. You’re best placed to tell us what’s special, what you value, and what we can improve. We must include the community at the beginning of the planning process to deliver the best planning outcomes. The NSW Government is committed to building thriving, safe and well-designed communities while maintaining and protecting what you value most.
