Moon grants special pardons to 5,174 people in time for New Years


president Mullen is granting pardons for
the new year to five thousand 174 people including some eighteen hundred
conscientious objectors plus ordinary criminals and those convicted of
election offences the list also includes the former head of the Korean
Confederation of trade unions who was jailed after clashes during protests
over working hours as well as the former Seoul Education superintendent the
presidential office explained that the pardons this time are aimed at enhancing
unity among the Korean people the Justice Ministry says they’ll take
effect on New Year’s Eve this is the third time the president has used his
power to issue pardons since taking office two years ago
