Hello, I’m Lucy James, Chair of the Bylaws Committee. Today I want to announce that we are ready to accept motions, amendments and resolutions for the 2013 RID Business Meeting. This year the business meeting will be conducted over the course of two days: Sunday, August 11 from 2:00-6:00 p.m., we will then pause the meeting and resume Monday, August 12 from 8:30-12:30 p.m. The second meeting is a continuation of the first. Voting will be held at both meetings. You are encouraged to follow this timeline for submissions: Motions should be submitted 90 days in advance of the first day of the business meeting to be at the conference. For 2013, that is May 10, 2013. Amendments or motions that reference the RID Bylaws must be submitted 90 days in advance of the first day of the business meeting, May 10, 2013. Amendments that reference any motion previously submitted (not related to the Bylaws) should be submitted 30 days in advance of the first day of the business meeting, July 11, 2013. Resolutions should be submitted 30 days in advance of the first day of the business meeting, July 11, 2013. If you submit motions, amendments or resolutions, they must include the following: The name of the primary submitter(s), and secondary submitter(s) if applicable, the name of the primary contact, their email address, their phone number, the date of the submission, the rationale for the motion, amendment or resolution, and the estimated fiscal impact statement, if possible and applicable. Also, amendments and motions which have the same goal will be referred to the National Bylaws Committee for final draft approval. Submitters will be kept informed of the status of their submission throughout the process. This will help to decrease the number of motions. Why is it better to have fewer motions? The less number of motions, the greater chance we will have to discuss each motion on the table. The RID President serves as the Chair of the Business Meeting. It is the Chair’s duty, in coordination with the Bylaws Committee, to order the motions as he/she desires for the business meeting. Please e-mail any submissions to [email protected] Thank you.
