MSNBC: Cenk Debates 14th Amendment, Immigration

president obama today signed a six hundred
million dollar border security bill but he did it privately without making any remarks regardless of how that’s interpreted one thing
does seem certain immigration will be one of several hot button issues facing candidates
from both parties in november’s mid-term elections if you want throwin same sex marriage back
in the headlines because of that prop eight rolling in california you’ve got a pretty
flammable mix for politicians of all stripes jenkins aris host of the online said the young
turks and is a blogger is well robert retinas of washington d_c_ bureau chief for the comcast
network and former adviser to the bush cheney campaign in two thousand four good afternoon gentleman
and just let me start with you yeah i’m wondering given the economy if were overstating things but will the president’s
failure for example to repeal don’t ask don’t tell his opposition to same sex marriage his at as some people perceive it failure to deal with immigration permian among
independents and and potentially hispanics you know i i think the most rolling out of
all those is the latino voters that he made a very clear promise of them and he just simply
hasn’t gotten to it you know and you might have a lot of reasons
for that file but he he didn’t get it done now up if you’re just talking about whether you stop
enough on uh… illegal immigration ami spending more than
george bush’s beefed up border security so i supposedly independent so worried about
that they should be pretty happy at about how that went down i think his main problem is that he has aprox
enough on their economy in the jobs and say look
republican proposals i don’t really care i’m gonna get beyond all these filibusters on
the safe either you’re with me tackle is jobs from or you’re against me and you don’t wanna die
of the jobs prop yeah and let me just ask you robert for mad
about the immigration issue because republicans from arizona to florida are proposing everything from when i guess you would call common sense to
pretty radical solutions that illegal immigration march uh… baker who’s running for the state legislature
in florida suggested that illegal immigrants should quote the shipped out to the middle of the country where
we can put up high walls and leave them there aspects of the g_o_p_ given up on the hispanic
vote altogether no i wouldn’t say that they’ve given up on the body is that it’s all but
however i would go back to the whole common-sense argument
book americans a fresher two right now with the legal immigrants coming to this country
and also having kids in this country and getting in front of the line for basic
services that’s what this really is about is whether or not illegal immigrants should
have the right to be able to receive uh… a fair share if you will the market demand
that you think it’s a real issue after well i think the republicans are making initial
rightfully cell again it goes back to whether or not we believe uh… as a society that we should be giving
our benefits to illegal immigrants but the answer questions specifically whether or not it’s republicans or democrats
now this is an this is an american issue that we have to face for the societal standpoint
are we going to be compassion and wealth to continue to give illegal immigrants bob dot basic services or are we going to
quote unquote around them up and send them back to their home countries jiang supporting
command and i just jump in here can i jump in here to say that questioning
the fourteen amendment is absolutely mental heavy metal gives us due process that’s the
core what it needs to be an american missus anyone born here is an american it we get
into questioning who’s a citizen and was not and we make that a political question continue
questioning everybody citizenship that’s crazy that large barbara quote she talks about setting a how great it was
that camps in the nineteen forties your memory can so that i think forties internment camps
which ronald reagan apologize for later which was disastrous well or other camps that were in the nineteen
forties you don’t want to go down this route and if you are looking at water in the country osvaldo hasn’t given you any told you but at any time the republicans don’t disaster
the question of fourteen amendment what do you have a go chris and i clarify that i am
robbery at disaster this uh… this is a policy question this is a tax question the bottom
line is that this country is has deficits as far as the eye can see in the
real question is is whether or not we can afford it not first of all let me just relieve
save en route and folks up and putting them into did you guess is not something that i
could not at all however this is a realistic question that we have to ask ourselves can
we afford to provide for illegal immigrants who we can barely afford to pay for the folks that are already brought
in this country roberts that i am sure any agreement that i’m sure you’d agree because
you’re gonna say at the top two percent at wealthiest people in the country should not only about seven hundred billion
dollar dynamics that i’d like to hear that you are doing a deficit inflated appleby two
above what are some of the limits of the issue what what may we can you know that we want
to talk about that with robert shanken but then again you have
a good weekend anything cash and filling in for john route
again today four p_m_ eastern on the dillon read it in show right here on msnbc

@LY8Ze7xK can you please tell me how that amnesty didnt work. i hear i lot of people saying that, im being serious i dont know. and there will be no more waves of illegal immigrants because the following governments will take care of the border you can count on that. im expecting the republicans winning the next president election and immigration is going to be the MAIN topic/concern. and please tell me how that amnesty didnt work.

  • Brandon Martin

"don't put the cart before the horse" or "don't mix apples and oranges". hmmmm decisions….ah fuck it, put both figures of speech together and we'll call it a day.

  • TheShal

@TeaPartySympathizer Yes, our countries are founded on very different principles. My country is founded on the notion of responsible government that's held accountable to the people. Your government is founded on making more money for the already rich.

AGAIN, I point to Canada, where a regulated banking industry wasn't affected by the US's flop. We only went into a slight recession, which we're out of now, because your country did.

  • Jojen

    @LY8Ze7xK "the resources they consume"
Do you know how idiotic you sound? I would love you to list the resources illegal immigrants "consume".. lol
And obviously if an amnesty is on the way, there would be regulations that would deny recent residents to obtain it… get educated

  • Jojen

@Cosmonater how are the births illegal? They were done in the U.S.!

Seriously, dumbfuck republicans.. and they say they "respect" the amendments when they want to change some.. fucking hypocrites

  • sulmagnificent

@Cosmonater clueless my ass we have to give up the 14th amendment because of a bunch of greedy pigs who have their hands around the white house not under my watch

  • SketchyBack

@LY8Ze7xK The California constitution limits property taxes and voters reject tax raises and accept spending projects in referendums, AND the house price bubble collapse was especially hard there. But it was the damn Mexicans who brought it down! Now it all makes sense! You're a genius for just blaming the foreigners when every economist has looked the other way!

  • DownLowProductions

love it how Cenk points out the false , diverting of the subject by the republican rep using the US debt. Too bad the Rep is skilled too and immediatly accuses Cenk of evading the subject{ by mentioning the top 3% "earners"} in pointing out the evasive tactics of the Rep.

    You guys following this? ^^
    hahahaha..

  • Joe

why is it whenever i hear a conservative or a creationist start a conversation with "common sense argument", I know Im about to hear a bunch of bullshit?

  • Yellow King

This black man doesn't seem to realize that the 14th is what ensured him his fucking rights. Without it he would still be a second-class citizen.

  • PbCon45

i wonder if msnbc would be receptive to, instead of just hiring Cenk, taking the entire cast and crew of tyt on the air.

  • P1ranh4

Incredible. Cenk's tactic of taking the other guys point and running with it through reality totally exposes him. Cenk's keeping it real. And once again you can see that trying to take the other guy serious and to come up with a solution for him just shows how ridiculous he is.

  • 1037pm

Who's paying for ILLEGAL immigrants because I don't think I am.
As far as I know I am paying for their kids who are legal.

The issue is hard to deal with. Either we build the great wall of Mexico, get the immigration police to start rounding people up like cattle, or we just deal because there aren't many solutions to this problem.
Especially policy solutions, we have to ACT instead of just sign papers.

  • TheShal

@TeaPartySympathizer A small business owner isn't in the top 2% of wage earners. And if he/she/them happens to be making more then 500 thousand a year, to justify them being in the top 2%, then I think that kind of tax leaves them with more then enough to get by, and get by comfortably.

I hate this stupidity, that assuming a small business owner is going to be affected by a higher capital gains tax. Small business in their first years don't even bring in profit.

  • lapiz4azulli

This why im for Border Security and Immigration Reform, you cant have one solution solve but not the other. PERIOD!!

  • TheShal

@TeaPartySympathizer I don't see how ending the Bush tax cuts is a tax hike, not to mention 3-4 god damn percent as a tax hike.

The US hasn't gone "Back and forth", it has only gone one way on capital gains, and that's downwards, lowering them. Every single time those taxes were higher, the US had a booming economy, be it the 50s, the early 80s (Reagan hadn't fucked shit up yet) or the 90s under Clinton, but there has always been a trend of lowering those taxes, with no real back and forth.

  • truthofevolution

@pennjersey83 "listen young man"? Typical arrogance and sneering insults from a conservative. "Keep learning, grow up and mature, and we can continue this discussion" According to this silly argument, if Cenk, who is older than you, told you the same thing, you should say "yes sir". You wouldn't? Oh ok so its a double standard, just like the rest of your arguments?

You have ignored the very real possibility that you might be the one who was brainwashed and is immature.

  • truthofevolution

@pennjersey83 I should also point out that every single point of argument you used against Cenk's expertise is the same ones Ive heard from creationists. You should take off your tinfoil hat.

  • Edgar Espinal

wtf…apple before the orange? or… dont fuck with the ppl that pay my bills, who gives a shit about the middle class and poor. honesty is so refreshing.

  • danmarg83

@TeaPartySympathizer What you're failing to realize is that the top 2% of the country (and actually even a little more than that) make way more money than is needed to survive. Look at it like a cake. The income you need to survive would be the cake, and everything over that would be icing on the cake. These wealthy people, and yes making $250k a year is a LOT of money, have cakes that are practically all icing. These wealthy people don't know the meaning of sacrifice anymore.

  • TheDalinkwent

@TeaPartySympathizer, I find it strange that people like you buy into the "it's all about small business owners" that the republicans feed you, yet the repubublicans support things that lead to corporations killing those same small business, the republicans opposing Net Neutrailty being the greatest example.

  • TheDalinkwent

@TeaPartySympathizer, I didn't say you were a conserative republican, I said that you fell for the republicans talking about smaller companys and up-starts, yet they pass bills and regulations that kill those very companys, republicans only care about big corporations.

  • danmarg83

@TeaPartySympathizer Yes, but I'm sure you'll agree there's a difference between the smaller business owners who make decent money to live off of, and large corporations who hijack the government. The regulated should not have total say in the regulations that govern them. If these regulations are totally unfair, they would have a point to protest; but that is far far FAR from the truth of the matter.

  • Jojen

@Cosmonater ok lets say your point "is" (which it isn't), lets say "is" valid… ok, illegals come here to not be an American.. you said stupidly:
"14th amendment has got to go"
Then dumbass, if it goes away, you're gonna tell me people born in the U.S., living in the U.S. their whole lives ARE NOT AMERICAN just because their parents are illegal? Your logic fails miserably as well as your assumptions and stereotyping of people. Get educated, then you might have valid points and arguments.

  • TheDalinkwent

@TeaPartySympathizer, Your right the Dem's are just as bad, that's why i laugh when I hear conseratives call Obama a socialist, seeing that Obama let Wall street(the guys who caused the meltdown) to write and influence there own regulations, while at the same time doing nothing to actually stop them from screwing us over a 2nd time it's like having optional traffic-lights, the only outcome is chaos.

  • Jojen

@Cosmonater lmfao, then by your logic a black person should be sent back to africa.. You are so full of moronic bullshit, that it's impossible to not call you a extremist consevative. I bet you're a NeoNazi also.. right? Dumbfuck

  • Jojen

@Cosmonater see? you're so dumb that believe the term illegal immigrants refers to Mexicans, while there are also millions of people that come from Asian countries, Canada, South America, and even Europe. So yeah dumbfuck, get educated.

  • 1037pm

@tarantarans Ehh, well most of the stories I hear about have people that can't get any government assistance because they are illegal and also because they have the risk of having family deported, they don't go to those places

  • blunty gagnon

The 14th amendment was never meant to give illegal alien babies citizenship. Ann Coulter wrote an excellent piece explaining this "Justice Brennan's Footnote Gave Us Anchor Babies",

  • The God Emperor

You know what'd be awesome? If they give Cenk his own TYT hour on MSNBC where he can bring up the HUGE issues that need addressing and still have the online show to talk about other important issues, but not as huge 😀 or just go with the show fully on TV with their show uploaded online too and then open up their post show games to non-paying members cause some of us are broke, hehe.

Regardless, love TYT! Great people who actually think.

  • The God Emperor

@MsDimplecheeks and anyone who makes this statement clearly never learned history. True, they might be uneducated, but the Republican party is the party that is associated with freeing the African American people from slavery. So many African American voters choose Republican and, sadly, most stick to what their parents voted as when they grow up.

  • The God Emperor

@MsDimplecheeks Republican party was the progressive party back then 😛 a lot don't realize that these days, sadly. The education system isn't great in our country. Not the worst, but not good enough.

  • The God Emperor

@MsDimplecheeks statistics I've read have said otherwise, however, I will say I haven't checked on them in a good while, so I could be wrong. So if you're right, interesting. But still understandable.

  • Nick Reiser

    @MsDimplecheeks
Any non-white, non-straight, non-male, non-christian republican = they hate themselves, or they love selling out.

  • Doeray

Why are they talking of the 14th when its the 16th thats the issue? Why are they talking about latino voters when its the 10% of mexico's citizens that live in the US, they are not voters.

  • blunty gagnon

@sidecharge Anchor babies are a myth? That's quite an expensive myth. 400,000 babies from illegals birthed here every year, at taxpayers expense, and of course those children get US citizenship so they're eligible for welfare and other kinds of assistance, at taxpayers expense. If you're illegal, your application is denied? LOL. One million legal immigrants come to the US each year, and 60% of them are mexicans.

  • blunty gagnon

@sidecharge Everything i said is a fact. If your application is denied because you're living here illegally, that's makes sense, but the point is hundreds of thousands of mexicans are granted citizenship every year because of a legal process involving anchor babies. My fevency on this issue is based on the billions it costs taxpayers, not anything racial or ethnic. But thanks for playing the race card.

  • blunty gagnon

@sidecharge "You're the one who brought up Mexicans, I played you back the hand you dealt." I mentioned that 60% of the legal immigrants hailed from Mexico, then you accused me of having a hatred of Mexicans. Whatever the details of the legalization process are, the fact remains that hundreds of thousands of Mexicans LEGALLY immigrate every year. And all of this costs the taxpayers billions.

  • Chris Garrigues

it's not the greatest nation in the world nor does anyone outside of her really want to embrace it. this country is akin to a grave robbers den and convincing others that it would be immoral to live off the excesses of empire is ridiculous. let's just get it over with and tax the rich – they don't really work anyways, they just "own".

  • blunty gagnon

@sidecharge "Anchor babies are a myth". Ok, we agree, end all of this automatic citizenship for being born in the US even if your parents are illegals.

  • bunbun5877

@sidecharge People who have children as American citizens can collect social services. Welfare, food stamps etc. The parents dont become citizens but they can collect our tax money on the child's behalf. That is the issue.

  • JFAINTER88

@METALGEARSOL1D worst???? right keep telling urself that. when u have to get heart surgery please go to mexico or canada then

  • JFAINTER88

@megagagnon1 IT should have always been you can only be a citizen if your parents are natural born or naturalized period. THUMBS UP IF U

  • JFAINTER88

@METALGEARSOL1D haha thats just funny, i wonder what kind of standards they are using, how long it takes to get health care and the quality or how much it costs. ok and u listen to the world health organization….. do u know who that even is? i dont watch fox news. i watch CENk be a D BAG. its more entertaining than the news.

  • JFAINTER88

@METALGEARSOL1D was there a point in all that rambling cuz i dont see one or a clear response to what i said. go to whatever socialist country you proclaim to love so much you D BAg and stay there and let us in America run shit how we prefer…

  • Dj C_Rock

tell that black y they made the 14th amendment man i hate black republicans black ppl r conservative about somethings most of us grew up in the church but we liberal on other things but me as black man not supporting a bunch idiots i don't like 2 look stupid

  • tk Computer Service

Cenk, You and Robert are both way off the mark. The 14th admendment setup slavery under a new name called a "person". The 13th Admendment disallowed all slavery, except contractual slavery. The 16th admendment allowed the unaportioned taxation of the newly created "person" or as some call them "taxpayers" and others call them 2nd class citizens.
Cenk you wakie wakie big boy!

  • tk Computer Service

@sharonanony No Ma'am, I wish I was wrong, but the Slaughterhouse Cases just reconfirms exactly what I was saying. There are two types of citizen in this Nation. Sovereign State citizens and US federal citizens. Think about it, no new amendment needed to written to free an illegally bound people.
In a small way it's like our illegal alien problem. When the law isn't being enforced, you don't need a new law. You need to enforce the law. If the law is unenforceable or just wrong then a new one.

  • tk Computer Service

@sharonanony I'm am so sorry you have been mislead or have seen things in a less than exposing light. go here tkcomputerservice,com/info.htm learn a little, then tell me if you still feel the same way. I think you'll be very shock at how misguided you have been. Please, understand I am not trying to insult you or make fun of you in anyway. These things have been purposely obfuscated from the American people.

  • tk Computer Service

@sharonanony Who cares about the color of ones skin. If everyone was the same color, would not evil still exist? There is a lot of hate in you it seems and you'll always be controlled as long as you let hate blind you to the truth. All people exist in a state of slavery in this country, only education and a willingness to change will make that not so.
Free your mind and your ass WILL follow!

  • TheChillMexican

This black guy wants to talk about paying for immigrants but yet many black people are in the same fucking welfare program that these immigrants are in. The deficit is not due to the immigrants, its due to bad decisions by the politicians and the presidents (all of them). I call BULLSHIT on this black guy.

  • Cephalopod

The 14th Amendment should be repealed. Everyone should have to take a test to get U.S. citizenship when they turn 18 (children would be considered under the stewardship of their citizen guardians). People should have to earn their citizenship.

  • TheChillMexican

@DaKevins Sorry but children born from an illegal immigrant is still an American. They are born in the US. There is nothing to look at. If you are born in America than you are American, simple as that. Stated and quoted from the Constitution.

And for your dumbass comment addressed to me, every illegal I know pays taxes and believe me I know plenty. Many illegals pay taxes but people like you just generalize and children born in the US from illegals are American.

  • TheChillMexican

@DaKevins But the constitution clearly says if you are born in the US you are a citizen. It does not mention anything about illegal immigrants. Yes I know that there wasn't a big debate of illegal immigration when this came about but it clearly says born in the US. Ill give you another example about misinterpretation of the constitution.

  • TheChillMexican

@DaKevins (cont'd) The second ammendment: the right to bear arms, was created to protect Americans from martial law. In case some big incident happens and America is overrun by another country or itself they would have some means to protect themselves. Now you got those MInutemen at the border with the guns creating chaos for the immigrants and for the border patrol. What gives the Minutemen the right to bear arms outside of their home? MISINTERPRETATION OF THE CONSTITUTION.

  • TheChillMexican

@DaKevins Its all outside its era and the country need to adapt just like they are allowed to keep their guns, then the children born in the US should have citizenship.

  • TheChillMexican

@MuayThaiFighter2009 Come on dont bullshit. Im laughing at your comment. That is one funny ass comment. But in all seriousness, the comment made me laugh. First of the country's unemployment rate is increasing and has been for several years. So many people are unemployed and that will definitely increase between blacks. And dont get me wrong it will also increase for hispanics. Citizens, illegals who gives a fuck, there not doing shit for the country!

  • TheChillMexican

@MuayThaiFighter2009 And dont put race into this. I dont give a fuck if you are black, white, hispanic, asian. I dont care. I will be the first to admit that hispanics are a big part of the US gangs and stupidity but dont bullshit black neighborhoods are some of the worst in this country. Milwaukee, WI is where I live and half of the black population is unemployed. HALF!!

  • TheChillMexican

    @MuayThaiFighter2009 Milwaukee county population = 960,000
    Black population = 25.7% = 246,720
Blacks unemployed = 53% = 130,761 unemployed blacks in Milwaukee.
Now Im not saying illegal immigration is not a burden to the society, but just because you have citizenship does not mean you are not a burden either. Immigrants are just the next people that are going to get the finger pointed at them for everything. You need someone to blame so you blame the easiest their is.

  • Hannah Kotze Miller

All I have to say to the guy that's not Cenk is I understand where you're coming from being worried about social services cost to the government, but that doesn't mean that we question our basic rights as citizens. If we question anyone's citizenship we question everyone's citizenship, if we question anyone's entitlement to due process and protection under the law we question everyone's. We don't want to ruin our country just to make it bad for a few undocumented (not illegal) immigrants

  • timeofreasonisnow

600 million for border security ? That has to be a joke right ? So they spend a 590 billion on the war in afghanistan … sooooo divide by 11 … then do the math …what is that .. 89 times as much money is spent every year in afghanistan on averge than the 600 million spent on border security ? You see folks .. where your money is going ?

  • timeofreasonisnow

I just did some math … and what I found shocked me … The USA has spent 1.4 trillion dollars on the wars in iraq and afghanistan … 3000 people died in 9/11 … that comes out to approximately 466 000 000 dollars fighting terror PER PERSON killed in 9/11. ummm tell me if I'm wrong here .. but that is in INCREDIBLY huge amount of money spent to avenge these deaths … You could literally feed the entire world with that kind of money … for like 100 years 1.4 trillion ?

  • timeofreasonisnow

Look at the thousands of soldiers that have paid with their lives and their health to fight bogus wars that have everything to do with profit, and little to do with security … How dare bush and cheney lie to patriots and put them into a war that was entirely unnecessary with iraq…. What can they say to the families of the hundreds of thousands of iraqi's who have died as a result of their policies ? Shame on you murdering treasonous BASTARDS !!!

  • wotan237

These retards keep linking US Hispanic votes with how well the GOP treats illegal aliens- people who broke into the country. Citizens should not be voting as a racial/ethnic bloc.
