Necklace worn by Theresa May to delay Brexit vote was gift from Italian designer – News Live

The necklace Theresa May wore as she pulled the meaningful Brexit vote was a gift from an Italian jewellery designer also favoured by Bake Off star Prue Leith  Newly released documents reveal the Prime Minister kept a gift of jewellery, part of Mirta Frosini’s ‘BallsMania’ collection  But in order to keep it, Mrs May will have had to pay any value above the limit of £140 required under the Ministerial Code  Bake Off’s Prue Leith is also a fan, and wore a similar necklace during promotional appearances for her most recent book  The figures also reveal the amount spent by Ministers on political advisors has increased  Records show there are 99 special advisers working across government with the annual bill coming to £8 1million.  The number on the payroll has rocketed in 12 months when they were 88 and the bill for 2016-17 was £7 3 million.  The Prime Minister’s chief of staff Gavin Barwell and her top spin doctor Robbie Gibb are the highest paid, both trousering £140,000  Ms Frosini has mentioned the Prime Minister in promotional materials a number of times  On her website she says the collection is worn by: “young girls as well as by career women or as in the case of the English Prime Minister, ladies who have their own classic style and well defined ”    After the PM had worn the piece in the Commons, Ms Frosini posted an Instagram picture of her wearing it  It was accompanied by text in French, which translates as: “Parliament vote on Brexit agreement postponed”  Mrs May also wore a similar piece in a different colour when she gave a speech to the CBI in November  Necklaces in the range sported by the PM start from £65. But Cabinet Office documents confirm the total value of the gift was above the £140 limit It’s unclear whether it was a more expensive single item or a collection.
