Sorry, the Republicans made up their minds before one word of testimony was heard. They are irreparably broken and incurable.

  • Margo

Steve painted a vivid picture. It's scary. I believe some of these republicans really believe in the conspiracy theories. Nunes was presenting them in his opening statement like they were based on facts.

This country is in a real mess. Trump owns the GOP, the Justice Dept. & the Supreme Court and will get re-elected illegally & knows as long as he stays in office, he will not be held accountable. Thank God he can only serve 2 terms unless GOP in Congress lets him change that.

  • Mad Hatman

If the president is above the law. He could abolish the elections or suspending them until they can be sure that there is no chance of foreign interference….should only be about 10 years or so. Trump would never leave office and we would have essentially a dictatorship.

  • David Crowley

There is overwhelming evidence corroborated by multiple witnesses that Trump upheld funds approved by Congress to extort the Ukraine into interfering in the 2020 election by digging up dirt on a domestic political rival. All the Republicans have to do is vote on party lines in the Senate to prevent Trump being removed from office. Then there will be no checks and balances on the President. Good luck, America. You're going to need it.

On July 23, 2019, Trump said this:  "I have an Article 2, where I have the right to do whatever I want as President."😲

This sounds like something the White House gardener must have whispered in his ear one day on his way to Marine One.😄

Wherever this absurd notion came from, it's clearly a recipe for abuses of power, corruption, malfeasance, and inevitable impeachment.

  • NYcat

Steve is exactly right, but nothing will change the Republicans attitude…what does it take for them to see that this president is without a doubt the worse mistake that has ever happened to this country…a diabolical nightmare.

  • wolfman02

Trump even wanted to fire the witnesses — the man wants nothing but loyalty to himself — NOT the country, just himself.
    Now, if that's not a wannabe dictator…

  • Heros and Zeros

Please…How could the Republican Party …the party of law and order….the party of constitutional correctness…ever tolerate the slightest abuse of power??? No Republican would…

  • blueeyessiamese

Excellent Steve Schmidt !! Through all of this I have found my connection with "honorable ex-Republicans". I realize we have so much in common. I would walk with people like you ANYDAY because we are all Americans together. I believe you would put your life on the line for OUR Democracy, OUR Constitution & I would do the same for you. This is the UNITING part of all this horror show we find our selves in. Thank You

  • Edward Allen Miranda

the problem with republicans is that they are like TRUMP, they are in it for personal gains… by supporting trump, they are protecting themselves by getting re-elected…. death of democracy is what we are really seeing..

  • Lovecat Productions

If the president is ever above the law, this is a dictatorship, they are a dictator, and America is officially dead. Period.

  • O SNOOPY SNOOP COLEMAN

TRUMP USED TO BE A SO-CALLED DEMOCRAT BEFORE HE RAN FOR OFFICE BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT HE COULD PUNK THE REPUBLICANS IS WHY HE CHANGED PARTIES BUT I'M GLAD THAT HE DID THO' BECAUSE THEY'RE FAR FROM THE PARTY OF THE RULE OF LAW OR THE PARTY OF GOD EITHER, THEIR NEW god & king IS TRUMP & THEY DON'T CARE WHAT LAW HE BREAKS AS LONG AS THEY GET TO STAY IN OFFICE & DO NOTHIN' EXCEPT MAKE AS MUCH MONEY AS THEY CAN FOR AS LONG AS IT LASTS!!💯😈😈🆗🇺🇸✌😎

  • Andrew Brent

Trump and Kushner already are complicit in Jamal Kashoggi's murder. Money is more important than human life. to the Trump Klan.

  • Tas Tapsas

Any President can, if they are without a moral compass or ethical core, become a criminal in a white house when you have one branch of government, in this case the Senate, refusing to act as a check and balance on the executive then that President can do as he or she likes unless the people who took an oath to country and constitution stand ready to carry out their oaths faithfully. The Republicans are the cause of all this. It started with Ryan in the house, choosing tax cuts over the welfare of the country, and McConnell in the Senate who has refused to take on a lawless President all for judicial appointments. McConnell has also turned the Senate into the graveyard of policy. He refuses to engage with the house and negotiate policy matters on anything and has sacrificed the authority and independence of the Senate all in the name of the most corrupt person to ever accidentally become President, Trump. Their legacy are beyonce redemption. The problem is that, like Trump, they don't care for the country, its people, its values or the ideals that the founding fathers enshrined in the constitution.

  • Thomas Tamir

You don't even know what you are talking about. The demorats did everything but wipe their feet on the Constitution. All you are doing is taking advantage over the people who don't know the Constitution. You took lessons from Hil-liary and Reich Chancellor Schiffty.

  • Jonny Sevent

Steve Schmidt is a reminder to us all that although we may disagree with much of what conservatives or old-school Republicans believe, they can still be decent people who will debate like grown-ups, compromise, be patriotic, and have respect for the rule of law and the Constitution.
The modern-day Republican Party appears to have no one like that anymore.

  • Dribrom Sunrock

USA is not the oldest constitutional republic in the world. It's a micro state in Europe called San Marino. It has been a constitutional republic sens 310 AD, bout 1500 years before the founding of USA. You can find San Marino on the map east of Florence in north Italy.

  • Diana Strong

Sondland realized he was STILL only an "UNKNOWN coffee boy" being dragged under the Shawshank bus… Having paid TRUMP $1 million for his ticket!

  • Jonny Sevent

So correct me if I am wrong folks, but doesn't today's news finally ensure that, should Trump be thrown out of office or be forced to resign, Mike Pence is no longer eligible or in a tenable position to take over the presidency?

  • undertow

It’s a slippery slope when truth becomes what wins the media for the day. We’re closer to 1984 now than we were during Obama.

  • tcurtisartist

“I cannot tell a lie.” – George Washington “I cannot tell the truth.” – Donald Trump "I cannot tell the difference." – Republicans

  • John Sands

Wow! Listening to Schmidt express the magnitude of what Trump has done is chilling. We're in uncharted waters, everyone. Please vote for sanity and stability in 2020

  • PuC Punisha

Orange Hitler needs to go! CANCERvatism is a HOAX! CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA FAUX NEWS and SINclair need to be investigated. GOP+NRA+KKK=KGB

  • Henry Coy

Steve Schmidt must be another Democrat plant??……Don't take that serious, I was being facetious, I hate when I agree with a Republican but he is not the type of Republican that I am used to…..a republican with convictions/Patriotism?? Never seen that before!

  • Quiltygal

Trump isn't alone in this. He isn't intelligent enough to be running this. He is a front man testing the waters for who comes next. Look to who is behind him, funding him, supporting him out of sight, there lies the answer.

  • Richard Johnsen

The repigs have been taking down the Constitution and Democracy for a long time, they just want to see if they can pull it off and stay in power somehow….

  • BackAndStillBgMsDangerus Dangerus

It's so frightening to hear the thoughts and fears I keep quiet and to myself spoken so plainly for the world to hear. Thank you Mr. Schmidt.

  • robert grant

We're already living in that America sir.
It's happening, the president and his henchmen have
been undertaking it with impunity,Barr,Pompeo etc.
The Americans need to stop it,but it's happening

  • Mikesse Jones

🗣️Truth is a monster under your bed… you know it's real because your afraid of it. 🤔. Mikesse Jones. 👁️👁️

  • Richard Williams

remember this : Trump has always been jealous of World Dictators and wants to be Strong and Powerful like his pal Putin so he just is fullfilling his dream of being a Dictator himself. The trouble is the American people are his victims.

  • Tex Johnson

You would never believe that Republicans in the House and Senate are supposed to be LAWMAKERS! Instead of Lawmakers, Republicans look like they are part of an organized, criminal, mob family, trying their best to aid, abbet and cover-up serious crimes and criminal gangster activities committed by THEIR MOB BOSS ( Donald Trump)!!!

  • Danny Gonzales

THE FACT IS THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE COLONIAL EMPIRE AS THE COLONIAL EUROPEANS ARE BECOMING THE MINORITY THE CONSTITUTION MEANS NOTHING THE FEAR THAT THE TREASURY WOULD BE MANEGE BY NON EUROPEANS & EURO AMERICANS WOULD HAVE TO OBEY BY NEW REFORM LAWS JUST LIKE INDIA & SOUTH AFRICA THE FEAR OF THE END  OF COLONIAL RULE YOU KNOW REAL FREEDOM

  • Ganiscol

Steve Schmidt sees the big picture, as usual.
If we let this criminal get away with it and as such enable him and every criminal who follows him into office, we can write this republic off as a loss.

I'll say it: Anybody who supports trump is not only dumb as a brick and/or downright racist, they also hate the idea of America the founding fathers had! Which makes them un-american. Each and every single one of them.

  • donofon101

Just to unload for a moment. MSNBC or NBC need to post a "GO FUND ME" .. web page for those of us who would donate big time to film one of two alternate ads for Lester Holt's nightly news. What a surprise to see an alternate ad. (Now that was some nice b&W photography in the debate breaks) … Come on now…

  • Toni Olson

We have learned that Donald Trump was not BORN WITH A GOLDEN SPOON IN HIS MOUTH IT WAS ONLY GOLD PLATED.
Fred Trump was also crook and made his Money on corrrupt land deals with corrupt people. Fred Trump had his fixer only a lot smarter than DT's FIXERS. So DT IS JUST A FAKE RICH OLD MAN 🤣😂😅🤣😂🤣😂😅

  • col403

The GOP want a dictator so they don't have to worry about loosing power over the country. Problem is Trump is only for Trump and if he gets absolute power he will dump them. They are playing a very dangerous game with America's Democracy

  • Dan Ames

The Word I've been saying for the Longest… CONSTITUTION.The End GOAL Is Trump ,The Gop and the Corporate Elite Doing away with it and Turning America into something like RUSSIA.

  • She's my President

The reason there are so many MSNBCannibals running for President is because IF THE DOJ goes after them they can pull a BIDEN to protect them from their money laundering, child trafficking , (endless list of FRAUD that destroyed the USA!)

  • ruth depew

A few words on terminology: Bribery is a corrupt quid pro quo which involves one or more victims and one or more extortionists. Using one term does not exclude the others.

  • MVVpro

Trump's main problem now is when he tries to establish his dictatorship in order to escape prison time, the army is now against him as well for defaming war heroes.

  • SXT 98 Comet

I couldn't agree more with Steve Schmidt. Just a perfect assessment of Republicans and the Trump cult. Instead of preserving, protecting, and defending the U.S. Constitution, Republicans may as well RIP IT UP. What a joke Republicans are! Just SICK.

  • Linda PS

Tell' Em Steve. My Family Left the RIGHT as well. They have become CORRUPT, POWER Grabbing COCKROACHES that is NOT working for the Tax Payers. They Show up each day ONLY to Cover and Protect this CONMAN who is NOT Qualified to be in the PEOPLES HOUSE. They all Need to go.

  • antony michael

Trumps argument sets an embarrassingly low standard for what we expect of any U.S democratically elected official, let alone the President

Trumps Defense: Bribery isn’t a crime unless the bribe succeeds.

FACT CHECK NO.1…. THE LAW …..(As any "first year" law student knows)

    1. The Constitution clearly states, quote: "It is crime" for a public official to “corruptly demand” or “seek a personally valuable favor in exchange for taking official action" or "violating his duty to act". (Like withholding congressionally allocated aid to Ukraine).
    2. The Constitution also clearly also states, quote: that "bribery" which Congress has specified, (includes "attempted bribery") "is an impeachable offense".
    3. You "do not" have to be "successful at committing a crime" "to be guilty of the crime",  the "attempt" alone "is a crime",
    4. The crime "does not hinge" on whether the criminal is "lucky enough to get away with it".
    5. Trump is "no less guilty" because he "failed to pull off the crime".
    6. The (Trump's) cover up of the crime is also a crime.

  • Tessmage Tessera

Only 24% of Americans are Republicans. Yet here they are, telling the other 76% of us that this is their country and they can do as they please. Well, I say we rise up and squash them like bugs.

  • Ryan B

Do the Republicans actually believe the crap they're peddling, or are they just venal opportunists willing to stoop to any level to stay in power? Vote Republican … elect a moron or morally bankrupt sycophant!
