Social Security Legislation Rewrite Bill – Committee Stage – Part 3 – Video 10

be happy to take the call on those once I’ve done that I call Joey please Thank You mr. chair thank you very much and I was I was rushing around thinking I might not be able to get in in time but I did and my contribution is looking at Clause 1 Beauty which looks at general obligation to be available for suitable employment must each year and whilst I agree with a B and C where it sees a person to whom the section applies tree must be available for and take reasonable steps to obtain suitable employment accept offer for suitable employment attend and participate in an interview for any opportunity of suitable employment which the beneficiary is referred to by a mystery and what I would like to do is to insert Clause 1 here 130g by saying that to attend and participate and work experience for any opportunity of suitable employment to which the beneficiary is referred to by MSD now I just want to talk about with experience I see that at some the work test obligations but with experiences also another Avenue towards full-time employment and I know of a number of beneficiaries that have gone out and done some work experience whether it be and and the horticultural area and the agricultural area you know whether or not that they thought that they may wish to work in that area they’ve gone out they’ve here to go and it’s actually lead to full-time employment and in coming off the benefit must must a chair and really at the end of the day that’s what we’re here about isn’t it this is what this is all about this particular section it’s about supporting beneficiaries and to a suitable employment something that they will also want to be in and it gives them a go at it and that is essentially the bottom line of my of my SOP must urge here I would like the minister to stand to say why it can’t be included I think that is a government that obligation is that we must give beneficiaries all the help that we can give them and by including work experience as part d of one clause one duty that actually broadens out the opportunity for beneficiaries to actually get on to meaningful in suitable employment employment that they that they can see themselves and for quite some time and I also know that there are a number of people there have actually come and worked on our property that have come off the benefit that have come and worked on our property within the agricultural industry which they thought they would never fit in they were born and bred townies and they never thought that they would ever like working in a farming area or an agriculture and from that they have actually moved into full-time employment and has actually helped them to actually gain an understanding of what employment and the variety of employment and experience that they can gain within the agricultural industry and one particular young men that we had he had been from job to job to job had been unsuccessful he came out into some with experience on our property and you know he ended up going and working for a road in construction organization and why because he had been part and parcel of working side by side with my husband and putting tracks in there through our property helping to build the fences a cetera and he liked it and so therefore he went from our place and he went into town and he got a job and a road in construction firm and in from the air he he’d just grow and he ended up working also going into the freezing works he really liked all of that really outdoorsy type for our work and and this is basically what the guts of my SOP is about and so mr. chair I would really really like to see the government pick up this particular clause that I’ve put through in my SOP I don’t think it’s a too far stretch from where the bill is it I think it enhances this particular part of the bill and so you know I would be very disappointed if the government did not pick up this particular clause as I see it it doesn’t hurt the bill it offers an expansion for beneficiaries for MST to actually support beneficiaries and to full-time employment and so before mr. chair I will leave my contribution at that I think it is a good general obligation for suitable employment and it does offer beneficiaries another revenue and show full-time suitable employment thank you I call dr. Parr gene Palmer Thank You mr. chair mr. t I would
