PM says he will pause Brexit legislation after timetable loss

Mr Speaker, I must express my disappointment that the house has again voted for delay, rather than a timetable that would have guaranteed that the UK was in a position to leave the EU on 31 October with a deal. We now face further uncertainty, and the EU must now make up their minds about how to answer parliament’s request for a delay. The first consequence is that the government must take the only responsible course and accelerate our preparations for a no-deal outcome. Secondly, I will speak to EU member states about their intentions and, until they have reached a decision, we will pause this legislation. Let me be…

WATCH Nigel Farage dismantle Remain supporter over Brexit and Boris Johnson’s deal – News 247

Milan, from Ashford, began the phone call by saying: “I’m a Remainer and I’ll be doing something quite unpopular I’ll be focusing on scrutiny and details. So I’m hoping you won’t suddenly move me on ” Mr Farage seemed to welcome the challenge. The first point of contention discussed was the Letwin amendment The caller continued: “Time has been wasted. Boris Johnson had tried to prorogue Parliament, and it wasted so much time and now he’s given MPs, what, a day to scrutinise a piece of legislation to have a vote on Saturday? “One MP said grass-cutting rules get more time in council debates than this ” Mr Farage responded: “I have…

Nigel Farage hits out at ‘pompously pontificating’ Bercow as he rejoices Speaker leaving – News 247

Nigel Farage rejoiced at the upcoming departure of John Bercow from the House of Commons as he tore into the Speaker for acting “pompous and great” in the chair Mr Bercow has repeatedly come under attack over the past few months over his alleged impartiality on Brexit despite the job requiring neutrality on proposed policy During his daily LBC show, Mr Farage said: “John Bercow pompously pontificating. “Did you see him on Saturday? Even when there was no noise in the chamber, ‘order, order’ for a global audience to see him  “Ok, that’s fine – if he wants to be pompous and grand that’s great – but this is supposed to…

How MPs could vote for Boris’s Brexit deal today but still sabotage UK’s exit on Oct 31 – News 247

The government text due to be voted on today states that the House “approves the negotiated withdrawal agreement”  If it passes, the provision of the Benn Act – which says the PM must beg the EU for an extension unless a deal has been approved by October 19 – will have been met The government would then start pushing through legislation to implement the detail of the agreement  However, the amendment put forward by former Cabinet minister Oliver Letwin would change the motion to make clear that the House has not given approval  Instead, MPs would specify that they are witholding support until after the legislation is fully finalised –…

Michael Gove does not rule out ignoring legislation to stop no-deal Brexit

See what the legislation says, You’re asking me about a pig in a poke and I will wait to see what legislation the opposition may try to bring forward but we know what – We’re in new constitutional times, but for a government to say ‘we won’t abide by legislation’ is impossible, surely? Well, we will see what the legislation says when it is put forward. For me, the most important thing is to bear in mind, actually, you already have legislation in place, which an overwhelming majority of MPs voted for.
