Nonetheless, let’s be honest, the other alternatives are not much better… and can certainly be more costly. At the beginning of this year, it seemed like the far right was unstoppable. Some political analysts claimed that Brexit would be the beginning of the end of European Union. And during this time the international media was full of words like FREXIT or CZEXIT.     Above all, we must keep on increasing Parliament’s level of overall involvement. That is why we are calling for a new parliamentary committee that whatever its title, would focus exclusively on this issue. In due course, it would produce interim reports, urging Parliament to choose between the various options put forward and to build as broad a consensus as possible through open debate. The aim would be to have a reform project adopted, with everyone fully aware of the significance and implications.

    I was asked, when I told my friends in London at a conference I was at yesterday that I was coming to Birmingham, I was asked ‘are you going to be speaking to the Conservative Party conference?’ and I said ‘no, I don’t think so.
