The ‘Times’ reported the blaze allegedly destroyed up to 500,000 master recordings in UMG’s archive vaults and included the work of top musicians over many…

Judges to Review Constitutionality of NDAA Military Detention Legislation

PAUL JAY: Welcome to The Real News Network. I’m Paul Jay in Baltimore. On Friday, September 28, a panel of three judges will review the appeal of a ruling by a judge that said that the section of the NDAA (that’s the National Defense Appropriation Act) that’s the section that’s been very controversial that essentially allows for the military to detain people without trial, people in general (that means citizens and noncitizens), if they are connected with al-Qaeda or, quote, associated with it, whatever that means (and that’s part of what the problem is, whatever that means)–. Well, a legal case that was launched against this section included Chris Hedges,…

The founding fathers and the jury system

Hi, this is Brigham Cluff. This is my sixth video in my series all about Arizona juries, what the Founding Fathers thought about the jury system and the Seventh Amendment to the United States Constitution. Juries were of great importance to the founders of our country. It was actually one of the motivating factors that prompted the Revolution to begin with. There was this concern among the Americans that their liberties were being taken away by the King of England. Those liberties included taxation without representation and although it hasn’t received quite as much attention, another issue that was very important was that their jury system was being taken away…

Oklahoma can’t cancel the First Amendment.

Peggy Fontenot: I was born an American-Indian. I’ve always been an American-Indian, and I’ve always identified as such. Under the Oklahoma law, I’m being prohibited from doing that, and it’s unconstitutional. It’s my right to identify with who I am. I’m a member of the Patawomeck, which is a state-recognized tribe in Virginia, and my documentation goes back to the 1600s. Caleb Trotter: Peggy Fontenot is an award-winning photographer and American-Indian artist who specializes in bead jewelry. Oklahoma’s new law has restricted the ability of artists like Peggy, who are members of state-recognized tribes, to be able to truthfully explain and describe and market their art as American-Indian made. This…
