    Interventions for classroom disruption

“Interventions for Classroom Disruption: Addressing Emotional and Behavioral Problems in the Classroom” In the first module, we discussed general issues of classroom management and presented a framework for classroom behavior management. This framework included three levels: primary or universal strategies applied to all students, secondary or selected strategies for students at-risk for disruption, and tertiary or intensive strategies for students already engaging in disruptive behavior. The most challenging discipline and classroom management issue faced by teachers is severely disruptive behavior. In this module, we will focus on interventions directed at students with emotional and behavioral problems in the classroom. There are three goals to this module. First, we will discuss…

A universal biosensor for infectious disease

I sincerely believe that infectious diseases are a great threat to national security because we have emergence of of new diseases with increased travel travel and globalization. We have an increase in anti-microbial resistance but for being effectively able to respond to all of these whether it’s in some remote village in Africa or a clinic here in the United States or our troops that may be deployed in remote areas of the world we need to be able to have diagnostics that provide the answers then and there and are indiscriminate and able to tackle any disease at any given point of time. The basic premise that our team…

Quantum Physics and Universal Beauty – Q&A with Frank Wilczek

Thanks very much for the talk, its a fantastic subject. If everything were symmetrical or is symmetrical You’ve got the particles and the forces and you’re saying they’re part of the same thing. You would expect, or at least I think you would expect, that everything will come to equilibrium pretty soon. As it seems, we’re 14 billion years down the line, We’ve still got interactions and it doesn’t seem to settle down. Is there a chance that there are more things? Because I know that it’s a human thing to want beauty. It’s a very objective, sorry a subjective, wish. It might be beautiful but it won’t seem that…

Studying Both Sexes with NIH’s National Institute on Aging’s Interventions Testing Program

The Interventions Testing Program, or ITP for short, is a program that was developed over over 10 years ago now to investigate the potential for compounds in dietary changes – – compounds that are provided in the diet – – to extend life span in a mouse model. We use males and females. This is, of course, a very important topic that the NIH has recognized recently to promote – – and we’ve done this from the beginning – – putting in enough males and females to have equal numbers going through the study and come out so that we’ve got statistically relevant numbers of both males and females for…

We want to take them out of their daily environment and how we do this is with a design technique called Place Making. This place making is done during the creative process. Where not only does the architecture of our environment has to work…

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit – Science of Universal Orlando Resort™

[music] [people screaming] [people screaming] [music]>>My name is Justin Schwartz. I’m an Engineer at Universal Orlando Resort. I’ve worked on many different attractions at Universal, from roller coasters to motion simulators. Even trains. Today we’re gonna learn a lot about the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster and the physics and science behind it. The steps for designing a roller coaster at Universal require a very specific engineering design process. First thing we do is we come up with the creative intent and for rocket we knew we want to build a roller coaster that involved music and audio. We did that by adding onboard audio, onboard lighting, and onboard…
