    Title IX #9: Bystander Intervention

RUSS: Uh… I don’t know. What time will it be? MARY: I think around seven. It might be fun. We might actually win this time. RUSS: (Laughs) Like I care. ROXANNE: No Jeff, you’ve gone too far! We had plans together! MARY: Gee. That doesn’t sound so good. Just avoid eye contact and keep moving. RUSS: No no, I think he really needs our help. ROXANNE: I love you, and I know you still love me! And Amanda is just confusing you. Once she’s out of the picture… RUSS: Hey, are you okay? ROXANNE: Yeah, we’re fine. Just talking. RUSS: You sure? JEFF: No. Can you please call campus security?…

The Kids Are Not All Right: College Mental Health Needs an Intervention

There’s no legal requirement for schools to provide health or mental health services to their students. Colleges do it because it’s the right thing to do and because it’s prudent. I think there’s a growing understanding and it’s something that we at the Jed Foundation are trying to really make schools aware of that it’s in the school’s and the student’s best interest to provide a really broad array of support services to their students. The more we can keep students on track doing well in school and getting to the graduation line, the better it is for everybody involved. One of the big challenges in providing services is that…

Bystander intervention for good | Nate Burke | TEDxSchriever

Translator: Leonardo Silva Reviewer: Maricene Crus I’m very excited to be here with you all today, and to be talking about this topic, this theme of community. There are a lot of communities that I belong to, and I’ve been thinking a lot about it in preparation for this talk. I could list off several things. I thought about telling you all the types of communities I belong to, like Harry Potter lovers and Game of Thrones lovers. There are lots of things that I feel connected to. One community that I am a part of is a community of survivors. A few years ago, I was sexually assaulted, and…

A Fight For Rape Survivors’ Rights

I was raped on Aug. 9, 2015. I had been downtown with a friend and this man approached us. He led me to a parking garage, slammed my head up against the parking garage wall and raped me vaginally and anally. In his statement to the police he admitted that it was like — he had penetrated me, he just said it was consensual. And I have a body with bruises and a forensic nurse said that I was raped — literally on my rape kit it says, “Opinion: sexual assault.” But my case was still denied prosecution. My case is a part of a national trend of police exceptionally…

Let’s Play “Who’s the Real Victim?” (feat. Bob Saget) – The Jim Jefferies Show

Well, it went down exactly like we all hoped it wouldn’t. Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed as the next Supreme Court Justice. Right now, drunk frat boys and angry misogynists are thinking, “Someday, if I really force myself on someone,– I, too, could be a Supreme Court judge. Or– or maybe even President!” And it’s particularly upsetting when you think about what the victim had to go through.>>This whole 2 week effort has been a calculated and orchestrated political hit.>>Fueled with apparent pent-up anger about President Trump.>>Revenge on behalf of the Clinton’s.>>And a millions of dollars in money from outside left-wing opposition groups. Yes, despite getting everything he ever wanted, the…

Father of student accused of rape defends due process

    >>FORMER DEMOCRATIC OPERATIVE AND YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT DEPOSING THE PRESIDENT, THAT SOUNDS POLITICAL.>>IT SOUNDS RIGHTEOUS.>>HOW SO?>>BECAUSE MY CLIENT IS CREDIBLE, SHE’S TELLING THE TRUTH.>>MY UNDERSTANDING THAT DR. FORD HAS ALREADY PASSED A LIE DETECTOR TEST. IF THERE IS NO NEED TO GO FORWARD WITH THIS NOMINATION AT THIS STAGE.>>I DON’T THINK THERE’S ANYTHING WRONG WITH CALLING OUT PEOPLE THAT LOOK LIKE ME FOR NOT DOING ENOUGH TO DEFEND WOMEN AND MINORITIES AND PEOPLE OF COLOR AND I’M GOING TO CONTINUE TO DO THAT.>>Martha: NOW THAT MICHAEL AVENATTI HAS BEEN ACCUSED HIMSELF OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, HE IS A BIG FAN OF DUE PROCESS FOR BOTH SIDES. How MAKERS Inspired Me, Amanda Nguyen | MAKERS

When I was working in finance, I did it because that’s what everybody else was doing, And I said OK, well, I’ll give this a try. And I did not like it. I literally watched Makers videos. I watched them over, and over, over again. And just watching these incredible women, heroes of mine, Hillary Clinton, talk about what motivated them gave me the strength to pursue my own dreams.

People ask me well why is the system so broken and the honest answer to that is that the law has a gender and that gender isn’t female when I was a kid I loved space I wanted to be an astronaut people would often joke that I’d run into things because I was too busy looking up at the sky my parents were refugees from Vietnam and so I grew up understanding quite viscerally the cost of freedom and what that means and to never take that for granted you I have never fully understood the definition of lonely as much as I did when I walked out of…
