Testicular Bill of Rights

A GEORGIA LAW MAKER IS SPEARHEADING LEGISLATION THAT WOULD PUT RESTRICTIONS ON VIAGRA AND EVEN CRIMINALIZE VASECTOMIES. THE PROPOSAL COMES IN RESPONSE TO THE CONTROVERSIAL HEARTBEAT BILL– WHICH WOULD PLACE RESTRICTIONS ON WOMEN’S ABORTION RIGHTS. IN TONIGHT’S TOP STORY– NEWS 3’S ALEX BOZARJIAN HEARS FROM THE REPRESENTATIVE BEHIND THE PROPOSAL. NOW STATE REP. DAR’SHUN KENDRICK HASN’T EVEN OFFICIALLY FILED THAT PROPOSAL, BUT SHE SAY’S IT’S DOING EXACTLY WHAT SHE HOPED IT WOULD DO. IT’S STARTING A NATIONWIDE CONVERSATION—AB OUT WOMEN’S RIGHTS. NATS: BABY HEARTBEAT THIS SOUND CAN BE DETECTED IN A FETUS– AFTER JUST SIX WEEKS. LYNNETTE GIBNEY/PRO-LIFE ACTIVIST: “TO ME THIS IS NOT ABOUT LEGISLATING WOMAN’S BODIES ITS ABOUT GIVING DIGNITY TO HUMAN BEINGS IN THE WOMB THEY ARE IN A DIFFERENT PLACE THAN WE ARE.” LYNETTE GIBNEY, A PRO-LIFE ACTIVITS– SPENDS MOST OF HER TIME FIGHTING FOR UNBORN BABIES. LYNNETTE GIBNEY/PRO-LIFE ACTIVIST:”WHEN PEOPLE SAY IT’S HER BODY, ITS HER BODY IS CARRYING THE CHILD BUT IT IS A SEPARATE HUMAN BEING THAT HAS A SECOND HEARTBEAT FROM THE MOTHER.” THE “HEARTBEAT” BILL COULD MEAN STATE LAW WOULD ALIGN WITH GIBNEY’S VIEWPOINT– BUT THE LEGISLATION IS MILES AWAY FROM THE POINT GEORGIA STATE REPRESENTATIVE, DAR’SHUN KENDRICK IS TRYING TO MAKE. KENDRICK’S RESPONSE TO THE “HEARTBEAT BILL” WOULD CLASSIFY SEX WITHOUT A CONDOM AS “AGGRAVATED ASSAULT”–BAN VASECTOMIES–AND WOULD EVEN REQUIRE MEN TO BEGIN PAYING CHILD SUPPORT IMMEDIATELY. DAVID PARRISH: “WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU’VE ALREADY HAD A VASECTOMY DO WE GET ARRESTED? OR DO THEY UN-DO US? SO THAT WE CAN HAVE CHILDREN AGAIN? BUT KENDRICK ADMITS SHE HAS VERY LITTLE CONFIDENCE HE PROPOSED BILL WOULD PASS. REP. DAR’SHUN KENDRICK: “BUT THE GENERAL THEME AROUND ALL OF THOSE BILLS IS TO BRING A CONVERSATION TO LIGHT THAT MEN ARE MAKING DECISIONS ABOUT WOMEN’S REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS, THEIR ENJOYMENT OR LACK THERE OF OF SEX AND SO WE GET TO HAVE THAT SAME DISCUSSION ABOUT THEIR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS.’ THE CUT-OFF DATE TO SUBMIT LEGISLATION FOR THIS CALENDAR YEAR HAS ALREADY PASSED SO, KENDRICK WILL FILE NEXT YEAR. AS FOR THE “HEARTBEAT BILL”–IT WAS APPROVED BY THE GEORGIA HOUSE ON THURSDAY, BUT THE SUPREME COURT HAS MADE IT CLEAR IN PAST CASES THAT STATES CANNOT BAN ABORTION BEFORE THE POINT OF VIABILITY 23 TO 25 WEEKS.
