Two groups voice opinions on removal of Confederate monuments in New Orleans

TRAVERS MACKEL IS LIVE AT ONE OF THE MONUMENTS. A CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC THAT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL COME TO AN END SOMETIME LATER THIS MONTH. THE MAYOR AND CITY HALL WANTS MONUMENTS TAKEN DOWN, BUT OTHER PEOPLE SAY THEY SHOULD THEY UP. — STAY UP. WITH 30,000 SIGNATURES IN HAND, THE GROUP MONUMENTAL TASK FORCE SAYS THE MAYOR AND CITY HALL ARE WAY OFF BASE IN THEIR EFFORTS TO REMOVE 4 CONFEDERATE ERA MONUMENTS. WE STAND UNITED IN OPPOSITION TO THIS PROPOSAL. THE MONUMENTS OF TASK COMMITTEE HAS RECENTLY BEEN DRAWN INTO THIS CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING THE REMOVAL OF FOUR MONUMENTS. OVER THE SUMMER, THE MAYOR ANNOUNCED THAT HE WANTS THE MONUMENTS OF LEE CIRCLE, JEFF DAVIS, PGT BEAUREGARD AND THE BATTLE OF LIBERTY PLACE TAKEN DOWN, CITING THAT THEY ARE PUBLIC NUISANCES. THE COUNCIL WILL DEBATE THE MATTER DURING A SPECIAL HEARING THIS THURSDAY AND VOTE ON THE ISSUE NEXT WEEK, DECEMBER 17. AND THIS GROUP HAS SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT PROCESS. WE ALSO QUESTION WHETHER THE PROCESS IS LEGAL, DOES THE CITY ACTUALLY ON THE MONUMENTS AND TO DO THEY HAVE PERMISSION TO TAKE THEM DOWN? BUT OTHER ORGANIZATIONS A TEAR THEM DOWN. WE WILL NOT BE SATISFIED UNLESS ALL STATUES ARE TAKEN DOWN. IF THE COUNCIL VOTES TO REMOVE THE MONUMENTS, THEY COULD BE GONE BY YEAR’S END. AND WHILE CITY HALL ISN’T SAYING WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THEM THE OPTIONS ARE RELOCATION OF THE MONUMENTS TO AN APPROPRIATE FACILITY, SUCH AS A MUSEUM AND ALSO ALLOWS FOR THEIR STORAGE, DONATION OR DISPOSAL. I CONSIDER THEM TO BE DEB RIS, SO THEY CAN GO TO THE TRASH PILE. FOR THOSE WHO FIND THAT THIS IS PRESERVATION, THEY HAVE A CONFEDERATE MUSEUM IN THE CITY IF THEY WANT TO DO THAT. NEW ORLEANS IS KNOWN AS A — CITY, IT PRESERVES ITS RICH HISTORY, NOT REMOVING AND DESTROYING IT. ONCE AGAIN, THAT COMMITTEE HAS A MEETING SET FOR DECEMBER 10, AROUND 2:00. ON DECEMBER 17, THAT IS WHEN THE COUNCIL WILL VOTE. BOTH OF THOSE ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND ARE EXPECTED TO GET

The monuments have been there forever, and the population has always been comprised primarily of blacks, so what's different now? The fact that there are a bunch of trend chasers there with no capacity for original thought?

Remove all the history of the south in one clean sweep, why don't you. You have just destroyed a major tourist draw as well and the primary one for many. Indeed, there are travellers who will now just avoid these ethnically cleansed southern towns altogether. These cultural Marxists will not stop until they have erased every last historical artifact that they deem offensive but no matter how hard they try, they will never be able to change what happened long ago…they want to wipe out all living memory of the past so that no one will ever know. The people of the south must never forget this crime. Those being born and generations that will follow deserve to know the truth.

Destabilize it all in one sweep. Remove. As more Nollywood and blacks who are apart of the nation finally get shown favor. Before for many many years we were shunned out of everything. Everything and now we black American  Africans of the diaspora can tell our stories without being threatened by some cloaked dark organization. Business will grow better for all Americans and life will improve.

The things people get offended at, remarkable. The statues ain't hurting nobody, nor does it mean they are offending anyone or represent slavery.

Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. – George Santayana

New Orleans: Most of Melpomene Avenue was renamed Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Several murals of King are painted along the boulevard. The boulevard is also near a King statue and memorial on Claiborne Avenue, and the boulevard is part of the route of New Orleans' annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade. The street is located in Central City, which is historically the city's largest African American commercial district and a major hub for the uptown African American community. The renamed section starts at its intersection with St. Charles Avenue where many Mardi Gras parades pass and ends at a 3-way intersection with Earhart Boulevard and S. Jeff Davis Parkway. Melpomene Avenue between the Mississippi River and St. Charles Ave. retains its historical name. Since black people want to remove white heritage then it is only fair for the mentioned MLK Streets to be renamed something non ethnic and all MLK monuments to be removed as well as any other monument or street named after a person of any ethnicity.

in your IGNORANCE have you considered that theese monuments are a MEMORIAL GRAVE STONE !!!!!!! is this what we have stooped to in this country, that we desicrate graves because one or two fools say its offensive ?. worst off is the IDIOT judge who would allow such a thing to happen, not much of a judge or a man !!!

Its time for all of us hard working southern people to write off New Orleans and leave it to the thugs and criminals to ruin or run their city. They have nothing to offer me.

Malcolm Suber doesn't care and it means nothing to him but for a lot of other folks it means a lot. Taking down monuments of veterans is wrong no matter what side they fought on. It was a terrible war and a lot of Americans died.

These monuments are an affront to a majority of the city's inhabitants. If you are Jewish, how would you like it if a statue of Adolf Eichmann is in your neighborhood? For that very reason, they should come down. That's a no brainer.

Look at all this inbred people. All traces of confederate monuments, flags etc. should all be gone. They lost the war.

Washington, and 40 signers of The Declaration of independence were slaveholders.Jefferson alone owned 600.The US flag flew over slave ships for 80years.Shall we rename our nation's Capital?Destroy the Washington Monument and Mt.Vernon? What about the Jefferson Memorial?Monticello?Andrew Jackson:slaveholder.Tear down The Hermitage?I am sick and tired of this PC bullshit.
